Leading change requires bringing people together, and building and maintaining a broad and diverse coalition of support through inevitable and unexpected challenges.
In each of the major change efforts I’ve led – transforming the school network at AltSchool, overhauling the human capital systems in Pittsburgh Public Schools, and designing and opening the highest performing public high school in Pittsburgh – one of the most important common threads has been effective collaboration, engagement, and teamwork.
In each case, hundreds of people have contributed to shaping the vision, making the decisions, communicating the details, and figuring out the best solutions. I’ve learned to manage fast-paced, adaptive and authentic engagements processes – sometimes driving towards a shared vision while facilitating and supporting a community in shaping its own best result.
Through this experience I’ve become skilled at strategy, communications, facilitation, coalition building, public relations, partnership development and management and more.
